It doesn’t matter what your specialty as an online entrepreneur, there’s only one thing that will help you reach your goals: traffic. With Facebook now over the one billion-user mark, it’s become an online beehive of potential.

The bad news is many are doing it wrong, wasting time and money on unclear strategies and ho-hum platforms that don’t say anything new or interesting.

The good news is, you don’t have to be one of those people.

As long as you have a clear vision, strategic plan, and the confidence necessary to skyrocket to the top of your niche, you’ll make it happen – and depending on your niche, this could happen in a matter of days.

Let’s get started, shall we?

1. Choose a promising niche.

Choose a niche that has the potential to go viral.

In order to create a popular Facebook page, you need to choose a niche that’s going to catch people’s attention. Make them laugh. Grind their gears. Shock them. Create a new spin on an age-old topic. Make an otherwise boring topic fun (where would the deodorant market be without the Old Spice guy?).

Make a list of niches you’d be interested in working with (after all, passion leads to profits). Research each to see which have the most potential to go viral:

  • Are people searching for this topic on Google?
  • Are there books being sold on Amazon about this topic? What are their ratings?
  • Are there YouTube videos on this topic? How popular are they?
  • How many Facebook pages are there about this topic? How popular are they? How engaged are their followers?

Look into topics that are trending in the news: can you create a page based on a certain controversy, hobby, or lifestyle? Make sure you’re passionate enough about the topic to post engaging content on a regular basis.

You’ll want a niche that’s targeted, yet broad. By that I mean, choose something specific – for example, instead of a page on dogs, create a page about a specific type of dog – that a wide range of people will like.

Once you’ve chosen your niche, you’ll want to setup a killer Facebook page.

2. Build a following.

Organically

  • Send out invites to your friends list and encourage them to forward your page to their friends as well.
  • Follow Facebook pages that relate to your niche as your page and leave engaging comments on their posts. You’ll not only get the attention of their followers, but the page owners as well, which could lead to future co-promotional opportunities.
  • Use a call-to-action on every post you create so your engagement consistently increases. Create content that’s magnetic, the kind your followers can’t help but Like, Share, and talk about.
  • Make your page THE place to be for your niche: compelling news, images, conversation, videos, memes, personal stories. Encourage your fans to post as much as possible, and in as many forms as possible.

It’s not just about creating a page, it’s about creating an experience.

Engagement is key. The more engagement you have on your page, the more you’ll appear on news feeds, and the more new people will discover you. More exposure equals more fans.

Of course, you’ll want a more aggressive approach than the ho-hum, obvious concepts above. That’s where Facebook Ads come into play, and this is why it’s crucial to secure a “targeted, yet broad” niche.

Facebook Ads

  • You want a lot of eyes looking at your ad and you want to pique their interest: specifically, how can you take what they’re passionate about compel them to click over to your page?
  • Choose a large demographic pool, and then narrow it down by their interests.
  • Don’t sell with your ad. Facebook is the primary place where people socialize, so create an ad that makes them want to get in on the discussion. Once they’re a hardcore fan of your page, that’s when you offer your products. Put your hot topic/interest front and center in your ad, and finish it off with a strong call-to-action: what do you want them to do next? Answer a question? Offer an opinion? Cast their vote? Be clear, and make the call-to-action easy; something they can do quickly that won’t impose upon their time.
  • Start your ad at around 5-10 cents per click, and once it starts getting impressions, drop the price, then drop it again. The higher your click-through rate, the more impressions your ad will get. Optimize your ad properly, and you could eventually score new followers at just one cent per click!
  • Take advantage of weekend traffic on Facebook. Cost per click bids go down on weekends, so you can increase your following significantly at a fraction of the cost.
  • Make sure your Facebook ads are primed for a high conversion rate by using these tips as your guide.
  • Place your ad, and watch your following grow!

Once you have a large enough following attracted to your page, your organic engagement efforts will take hold and you’ll have less and less need to advertise.

You don’t just want to run a page about your niche, you want to run the best page. Study your competitors. How can you make your page different? When your page is automatically recommended by word-of-mouth, that’s when you know you’re on your way.

On a bi-weekly or monthly basis, check out your statistics. Make a list of the posts that received the most engagement, and use any patterns you discover that trigger your audience to engage. This will help you utilize these triggers automatically in your future posts.

3. Create a product.

You could sell affiliate products as they relate to your niche, but why make 6-7% commission from Amazon when you can make 70% by being the creator/vendor? Plus, your audience trusts you and will therefore be more inclined to purchase products connected to you.

Again, analyze your Facebook page statistics: which posts receive the most attention? Go over comments and opinions from your followers: what void can you fill for them through your digital products?

If all else fails, just ask! Contact your super fans: the ones who Like, comment and share the most. Ask them for their insights. Who better to know what your demographic needs than your demographic itself?

The best thing you can do is make the product creation process a group effort:

  • By asking your fans what they want and delivering, you’ll build their trust and loyalty. This is especially crucial with your first product, as it builds the foundation for future product launches.
  • By asking for their opinion on content, title, cover design, etc., you’ll not only increase engagement, but anticipation for your product launch. (Check out #3 on this list of Facebook posts that spark engagement.)
  • By taking them behind-the-scenes of the product production process with status updates, excerpts, reviews, etc. right up until the day of the launch, your followers will be primed and ready to click and buy.
  • By outsourcing the creation of content for your product – for example, by asking your super fans to contribute to your eBook – you’ll not only be able to finish your product quickly, but efficiently. Plus, your super fans will help promote the crap out of it once it launches.

The more hands on deck, the more successful you’ll be in boosting your product’s Amazon ranking.

4. Publish your product.

5. Promote your product.

By this point, you’ve already got a happenin’ Facebook page full of Likes, comments and fan posts (right?!). Next on the agenda: incorporate posts related to your product within your editorial calendar. Like your everyday engagement posts, you’ll want to mix it up and see which promotional tactics work best with your audience, and test out different offers.

6. Automate your marketing.

7. Outsource your niche?

If you consider this niche to be “the one,” then you can rinse and repeat the above steps for your next product.

If however you’re someone who has multiple interests you’re passionate about, you can delegate the maintenance of your Facebook page and products to someone else while you move onto the creation of your next hot enterprise.

This process will take time, but how much time depends on how diligent you are about the process.

Facebook is indeed a wonderful resource to spend your time on, only if you have a solid strategy in place. 😉

I myself don’t spend as much time as I used to on Facebook, but still have my page where I engage with my fans.
