I wanted to answer your questions first but also let you know that I might have a better strategy for you, depending on what you are trying to achieve. First of all, yes you can use the thesis theme. Go to copyblogger.com and purchase from there. Brian Clark is the evil genius behind it. I'd also recommend adding in his brand now scribeseo product which you can also buy there. It's ridiculously powerful. As for Ning, the best thing to do is there is a plug in that you can put on your thesis WordPress blog, that will connect your Ning community to the website. It's relatively simple to dump your business website into thesis and make it look exactly the same, and then do the next step to use the plug in. We actually do this for clients if it is tied into a larger strategy. If your strategy is to put up several (by several I mean more than 10) sites with articles and videos for SEO fishing purposes, I have a better technology that WordPress that achieves this much quicker. It is proprietary, but is working great right now. However, WordPress will work, it's just much slower, for some reason. Good content with the scribeseo.com product should be adequate though.
