Twitter Attention

Twitter is by far the best social network for reaching out and meeting people. And you can reach out to anyone – no matter how high a status they have – as long as they have a Twitter account.

Many of the people to whom you can reach out could help your business. We’ll call these Twitter influencers.

Twitter influencers are the people in your niche or industry who could help you get ahead faster.

Maybe they are:

  • Big-name bloggers with thousands of followers, who could shine a light on your brand.
  • Potential investors in your new company.
  • Potential customers who would place big orders with your business.

So how can you catch them by the coat-tails and get them to notice you?

We’ll start with the basics, then move onto some extra powerful ways of getting noticed.

4 Simple Ways to Get Noticed by Twitter Influencers

1. Follow Influencers

Every person you follow on Twitter receives an email that tells about you. For those who have thousands of followers, they’re unlikely to pay much attention. But it’s their first exposure to your name – you’re going to work a lot harder than just following them, right?

2. Talk to Influencers

The next step is to start a conversation with the influencers you’re following. Reply to their tweets. Say thank you for awesome links they’ve shared. Answer any questions they ask. You’ll still be one of the crowd, but over time they’ll become familiar with you.

3. Retweet Influencers

When influencers share good stuff on Twitter, retweet that good stuff to your own followers. The influencers you target will receive notifications each time you retweet them. You’ll still making your face and name familiar.

This one takes a little more effort, but for that effort you get a little more reward. Start reading the blogs of the influencers you’re targeting. When you read a post you like, share it on Twitter, and include their @username in your tweet. Now you show that you read their blogs, and you’re seriously interested in what they have to say. If you’re lucky, they’ll return that interest. If not, move on to the advanced tactics.

3 Advanced Tactics to Get Noticed by Twitter Influencers

5. Write a Blog Post About the Influencer

Yes, writing a blog post takes time. But if someone wrote a blog post about you, wouldn’t you sit up and pay attention? This strategy works better if you target a single influencer, but you can also spray and pray, targeting multiple influencers with one post. We did it with this post, getting ourselves a ton of attention.

6. Pitch a Guest Post for Their Blog

Now that you really have their attention, they won’t be at all surprised to see your name rock up in their inbox. Plus, you’re offering to write for their blog for free. (You have analyzed their blog first, haven’t you?). If they say yes, then score! They’ll promote your blog post to all their followers.

7. Join Their Tribe on Other Social Networks

You’re totally on their radar by now. But if you really want to ratchet things up, start connecting with them elsewhere. Add them on LinkedIn (you wrote for their blog, so you worked together). Like their Facebook page. Follow their boards on Pinterest.

Bonus Strategy: Rinse and Repeat

This isn’t a bulletproof strategy. It will fail at least as often as it works. So don’t pin all your hopes on one person you’d like to target. Work your way through a list. Talk to lots of people at once. That, after all, is the point of Twitter.
